Mark Caughlan of Larimer County Department of Natural Resources, in conjunction with the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, and is asking for help from the public in identifying and locating those who are responsible for the theft of self-service permit pay boxes in the Horsetooth area.

Sometime between the evening of March 18 and early morning of March 19, two park permit vaults were taken from the Horsetooth Reservoir area. One of the stolen vaults had been located at Horsetooth Mountain Park at 6550 West County Road 38E. The second was taken from South Bay at 4200 West County Road 38E.

A second instance occurred on the east side of Horsetooth Reservoir sometime between late evening of March 24 and early morning of March 25. This time the suspects attempted to steal four vaults, but were only able to actually take two. One was located at Sunrise day use area at 605 South County Road 23 and the other was located at Satanka Cove at 5283 West County Road 48C.

Vaults were also taken last night from Carter Lake.

The vaults are emptied several times a week by park rangers, so very little money was actually in the vaults. It is suspected that a large vehicle, possibly a pick-up truck with a winch, was used in the crime.

Anyone with information regarding this or any other crime is asked to call Mark Caughlan at 970-481-4120 or Crime Stoppers at 970-221-6868 where you will remain anonymous and possibly be eligible for a cash reward. Crime Stoppers may also be reached through their website at www.stopcriminals.org.
