Police Investigate Report of Sexual Assault
Fort Collins police are investigating the report that a 15 year-old Fort Collins female was sexually assaulted Tuesday evening, January 6, around 7 p.m. in Rolland Moore Park in southwest Fort Collins.
While details of the assault are limited at this time, the victim did report she entered Rolland Moore Park off W. Stuart Street with the intent to walk through Rolland Moore Park to the Drake and Dunbar area when she got lost and instead decided to walk towards the park entrance at Shields Street. As she approached the basketball courts in the park, she observed a red car (no further description was provided). An unknown male suspect got out of the car and attacked her from behind.
The victim did not see her assailant and consequently was unable to provide police with a description of the suspect.
The victim was attacked from behind. The suspect bound her hands behind her back, gagged her and said she would be killed if she screamed. After being sexually assaulted, the victim ran to Jimmy John’s Sandwich shop at Raintree and Shields Streets to report the assault. Police were notified and the victim was taken to the Medical Center of the Rockies.
The investigation into this assault continues and police will re-interview the victim today in an attempt to gather more details.
Police were able to recover some evidence last night.
Police are continuing to investigate the report and remind community members to use personal safety skills and to report any suspicious persons or activities to the police.
An attempted abduction of a 13 year-old girl was reported earlier that day. Police do not have anything that leads them to believe the two incidents are connected.
Anyone with information about this incident or who was in the park last evening is asked to contact Detective Keith Maynard at 970-416-2051 or Crime Stoppers of Larimer County at 970-221-6868. Crime Stoppers may also be reached through their website at www.stopcriminals.org .
