Police Investigate Suspicious Fire

Fort Collins police and Poudre Fire Authority were called to the business Signs Now at 1438 Riverside Ave. in Fort Collins at approximately 4:44 a.m. on the report of a structure fire. Police and fire personnel arriving on scene found a door on the business that appeared to be broken open. Detectives are working with Poudre Fire Authority investigators to determine the origin and cause of the fire as well as to determine if illegal entry was made to the building.

While the fire was being extinguished, a burglary was reported to police at Painter’s Supply located at 1626 Riverside Avenue. Police responded and conducted an investigation in which they determined that forcible entry was made to the building and some computer equipment and a small amount of cash was stolen from the business.

It is unclear at this time if the burglary is connected to the fire; however, detectives are exploring that possibility. Anyone with information on suspicious activity in the area between 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 25 and 5:00 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 26, please call Det. Kyle Bendzsa at 970-221-6577 or Crime Stoppers of Larimer County at 970-221-6868 where you will remain anonymous and possibly be eligible for a cash reward.
