Loveland Police Officer Shot!
On March 2nd, 2014 at approximately 7:48 p.m., a Loveland Police officer made a traffic stop at the intersection of 17th Street and North Wilson Avenue. Shortly thereafter, the officer called over his radio that shots had been fired.

Officers who responded to assist found that the officer had been shot during the traffic stop. The officer was taken to an area hospital. The officer is currently in ICU.

Loveland officers with the aid of several neighboring jurisdictions searched the area for the vehicle and suspect(s). During this time, Loveland Police coordinated a Blue Alert with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. At approximately 1:00 a.m., Loveland officers found what is believed to be the suspect vehicle abandoned in the area of Aspen Drive and Taft Avenue. The Blue Alert was cancelled.

The suspect(s) have not yet been located.

The officer is still in ICU and is expected to survive his injuries. The officer was able to return fire after being shot.

The Everbridge Alert System was used to send out over 10,000 notifications throughout western Loveland and southern Fort Collins.

In light of the seriousness of this crime, a police officer being shot in the line of duty, the Board of Directors for Larimer Crime Stoppers is announcing that the reward for an anonymous tip that leads to the arrest is now raised from the standard $1,000 to $5,000.

UPDATE:

On 030314 Detectives from the Loveland Police Department obtained a search warrant for 348 Teri Drive #5.

Prior to the service of the search warrant, area schools were placed on lock-down as a precautionary measure.  Area residents were notified of the police activity and cautioned to remain inside.

At approximately 4:10pm, the search warrant was served.  Due to the nature of the investigation and the concerns for public safety, Loveland Police SWAT with the assistance of Ft. Collins Police SWAT served the search warrant on the residence.

The residence was found to be unoccupied at the time of the search warrant service.

Detectives are still on scene processing the location.  No specific suspect(s) have been identified and the investigation in on-going. The suspect(s) are still at large.
